BACKGROUND

The National Conference in Colorado Springs was convened in 2006 to bring together various experts and stakeholders in the field of geropsychology to formulate a training model. One of the most exciting outcomes of the National Conference was the decision to form a council, CoPGTP, to focus on geropsychology training and provide resources for programs and individuals seeking training in the field.

As of 2011, CoPGTP is incorporated as a nonprofit corporation in California, and has been recognized as a tax exempt nonprofit by the IRS. The board and membership meet each year. The first board of directors was elected in 2007, and it met during APA’s annual meeting in San Francisco that year. The first meeting for all members was held at the 2008 APA meeting in Boston, and the board and membership continues to meet on a yearly basis at either APA or the annual meeting of the Gerontological Society of America (GSA).
